FAIR Act
The FAIR Act (Fair, Accurate, Inclusive, and Respectful Education Act) is a California law which mandates the inclusion of the political, economic, and social contributions of persons with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people into educational textbooks and the social studies curricula in California public schools by amending the California Education Code.
FAIR Act Symposium
Members of the OUTreach LGBT Libraries and Archives student group at UCLA are currently organizing a symposium on California’s FAIR Act (Senate Bill 48), to be held at UCLA this spring. Our hope is to create a space where librarians, educators, and scholars have the opportunity to share the work they are doing to ensure their institutions are ready to address the new educational needs set forth by the FAIR Act. Potential contributors should feel free to address all aspects of the FAIR Act, including curricula covering the contributions of individuals with disabilities as well as LGBTQ+ contributions. With this in mind, OUTreach is looking for contributors interested in speaking and/or leading workshops.
